Ingredients
  

For Cooking Basic Red Rice:

  • 1 cup red rice
  • 2 ½ cups water or vegetable broth
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil optional

For Red Rice Pulao:

  • 1 cup cooked red rice
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 cup mixed vegetables carrots, peas, bell peppers
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

For Spicy Coconut Red Rice:

  • 1 cup cooked red rice
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice
  • Salt to taste

Optional Ingredients:

  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika for depth
  • Fresh cilantro or parsley for garnish
  • 1/4 cup roasted nuts or seeds for crunch

Instructions
 

  • Cook Basic Red Rice: Rinse red rice under cold water until the water runs mostly clear.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine red rice, water or broth, and salt. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  • Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 30-35 minutes, or until all the liquid is absorbed.
  • Fluff the rice with a fork and let it sit covered for 5 minutes before serving.

For Red Rice Pulao:

  • Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add onions and garlic, sautéing until fragrant.
  • Stir in cumin, turmeric, and mixed vegetables. Cook for 3-4 minutes.
  • Add cooked red rice and stir until evenly mixed.
  • Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs.

For Spicy Coconut Red Rice:

  • Heat a saucepan over medium heat and add coconut milk.
  • Stir in red pepper flakes, lime juice, and salt.
  • Add cooked red rice and mix well until heated through.
  • Serve warm as a side or base for curries.

Notes

For extra flavor, cook red rice in vegetable or chicken broth instead of water.
To add protein, mix in grilled shrimp, tofu, or shredded chicken.
Leftover red rice can be stored in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
